Servicios Opaui is a cottage-industry translation agency
based in Mexico City. Over the years we have built up a firm reputation for reliable,
quality work and have managed to establish a portfolio of regular
customers, including several government departments, international
organizations, translation agencies across the world, and some of the largest
domestic and multinational corporations currently doing business
in Mexico.
Our professional inclination is towards technical, government, and legal texts.
Our personal preference for texts dealing with information technology,
computer science, and communications is equally strong.
The basic language combinations we offer are Spanish into English
and English into Spanish.
Haydn J. Rawlinson was
born in Liverpool, UK, and
is now a naturalized Mexican citizen. In 1986 he received a B.A.
Honours in Interpreting and Translating from
Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Britain's only undergraduate translation
course, which involved six-month placements at the Institut Supérieur
d'Interprétariat et de Traduction in Paris and El Colegio
de México in Mexico City. His student days in the cold
Caledonian north were a key factor in his decision to relocate
to warmer climes: since graduating he has worked as a translator
in various parts of Mexico and has been providing freelance language
services since 1988. In 1990 he settled in the south of Mexico
City, where he is gradually making himself more and more indispensable
to an increasingly large number of people.
Susana Marín de Rawlinson,
a native of Mexico
City, has been involved with the world of translation for more
years than she cares to remember. After completing the first four
semesters of the B.A. course at Mexico City's Instituto Superior
de Intérpretes y Traductores, she transferred to the prestigious
postgraduate Translator Training Program at
El Colegio de
México, from which she received her diploma in 1984. She has held
several academic positions, including two years teaching degree
students at the ISIT, and has extensively offered her professional
services around the country. She proudly claims to have been the
first translator in Mexico to acquire and use a computer in the
far-off and forgotten days before the PC became a supermarket
item.

English-Spanish-English. We've both studied other languages but don't really
offer them professionally. The odd French, German, Portuguese or Latin phrase in a
job, however, is unlikely to be a problem. Although we specialize in technical,
government, legal, and commercial texts, in general terms, we'll tackle just about
anything - it takes a lot to scare us.
IBM-PC compatibles, able to submit work in most popular word processing formats
with conversion facilities for others (including Macintosh); laser printer; dedicated
fax/modem line; fully conversant with Internet file exchange procedures; large
collection of specialist dictionaries and glossaries.
Photocopies of testimonials and contact addresses are available
on request, as are samples of our work.
